To new beginnings

They’re not easy. Not at all. Nobody likes them. We try to avoid them as much as possible when we get older. The truth is that they are necessary for the growth. Everything starts at the beginning.

I almost forgot the feeling of starting something new. I fixed my routine, had a profitable business, I went to the gym every day and so on. It was almost perfect. But there was one big problem. Everything was the same. Don’t understand me wrong. I don’t mix stability and comfort zone. I was in my comfort zone. And you know what they say — comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there. I felt the same way.

Comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.

So we decided. We sold our stuff, cancel our apartment, we sold our business and went traveling. We knew it’s going to be hard. But there was one thing I found out. My cousin told me a story once. He showed me his hands and made a gesture like a chair with it. Each finger represented one thing, one area of the life. The chair can stands if there are four or even three standing legs (fingers). But if you remove the third one it started to get dizzy, and if you don’t do anything, it will eventually fall. After you’re at the bottom, you cannot stand up with all legs at the same time. But first, you have to fix one, then moved to another one, and next one, till you don’t have them all back standing and running.

My chair fell apart when we started. Not because it would be hard. It happened because there were too much of new beginnings. I was on the floor and tried to stand up with all legs at the same time. Each of them was new, unstable — imagine small horse trying to stand up for the first time. And each time we switched a place (we did it on two weeks basics) I had to find a new place to work, for the workout, and so on. I was like a lion in the cage, walking in circles with feverish crazy eyes.

That’s why we made another decision. We didn’t go back. We moved forward. We still have a vision of us traveling the globe. We went to a place where we already spent a year of our lives with a mission. To get us back on track, to prepare ourselves for our next big jump. From business world, I know that big things need a routine and discipline. And moving to another side of the world it’s not going to be an easy task. But we will manage it because we will stand on stability; because we are going to prepare.

We are working on our website, which still isn’t on. Leo (he’s coding it) can get a bit of a perfectionist. He wants it to be functional, quick and excellent, and he can get lost in the details. Like he is not nervous enough, I dare to comment what he wrote about us for an intro. It was a word ‘crazy’ mentioned in a context: how crazy we are for selling everything we had and wandered into the world. I kindly exposed, that I don’t understand why travelers like to think about themselves as crazy. They like to brag how insane they are. I get it: we all want to be special, adventurous and cool. But I still think traveling is one of the sanest things one can do.

Do you have this problem when you have to tell something about yourself, and you don’t know how to do it properly? What to say? What is it that defines me? Do I want anything to categorize me and put me in some box? Well, not really…

In January we went to visit our family in Slovenia. We didn’t see any positive consequences of our visit. We were exhausted, and it was hard to get back into our daily routine. The most significant problem occurred when it was time to get back to school. Lejla skipped two weeks of school, and she had a lot of catching up to do - tons of homework. But the most heartbreaking issue we had with Erik. He just didn’t want to go back to school.
